Despite decades of research, reliable and precise diagnostics for cancers of reproductive organs are not available on the market. Current diagnostic regiments for these cancers, particularly cancer of the breast in women and prostate cancer in men are painful, invasive and expensive. Many patients are diagnosed late or incorrectly, which results in very high mortality rates. ViroTech LLCs tests RAK can provide earlier, faster, more accurate, less invasive, and less expensive diagnostic information than currently available methods, thus providing for more effective early diagnosis and treatment of these cancers. Markers RAK are detectable in 95-100% of the breast, ovarian, uterine, prostate and testicular cancer cases but are absent in normal healthy tissues. Genes RAK of that virus are detectable in the blood cells sooner than cancer may be spotted in a specific organ. These early pre-malignant, biochemical changes, are not visible by a traditional microscopic pathological evaluation. The Company has developed more than 20 diagnostic kits which allow: i) testing blood samples for the presence of the viral gene RAK alpha and determining cancer predisposition ii) testing the blood for the presence of the antigen RAK p160 and determining virus activation and the potential for the relocation to the reproductive organs iii) testing the expression of RAK antigens p120, p42 and p25 in biopsy samples and determining early pre-malignant or malignant changes; iv) detecting gene RAK alpha in histologically normal cancer margins and determining pre-malignant changes with the need for an aggressive surgery and/or treatment
ViroTech LLC is a leader in the development of tests for a non-invasive detection of prostate cancer in men and uterine cancer in women. In men, the diagnostic tests are based on analysis of semen and in women on analysis of uterine secretions. Next generations of tests will include analysis of the breast milk and other body secretions.
Markers RAK also provide excellent targets for the developed of anti-cancer therapeutics. ViroTech LLC has already patented some radioimmunotherapeutics and antisense therapeutics and is prepared to start production of anti-cancer vaccines.
